Whirlwind Week

Back in Oklahoma it's back to a busy week of shooting club matches, practice days and rounded the end of the week with a trip to Arkansas for their club match today.

Last Saturday Missouri Mae and I ran a shooting clinic for 11 keen shooters. By all accounts it went well with those reporting they'd learnt some new things and we're happy to receive new tips. I wish them all the best for their future of shooting!

Sunday was a great day for them to follow up on their newly acquired skills with The Territorial Marshal's club match. Jack and I had a blast shooting with these guys again and there was an exceptional turnout of 65 shooters.

Wednesday, besides being a much cooler day, was practice day and for 11 of us that showed up for that we got through 6 stages pretty quick and headed off to 'go eat'!

Yesterday Jack decided we should head to Arkansas to shoot with Judge Parker Marshal's at Fort Smith.

We drove into town from the West and was looking for the new Marshal's Museum but alas it still hasn't started construction. It is reported to be opening in Sept 2019.

There is some new mural art on the sides of buildings that I noticed.

The club match today was good, attended by 15 cowboys and cowgirls.

Six great stages with everything from single tap to multi tap sequences and a variety of target sizes and distances. We are both pretty happy with today's effort.

For now, it's plan, pack and get ready to get on the road this week to Louisiana, then on through to Texas before heading back into Oklahoma for Land Run.

Look forward to seeing you on the trail somewhere!

Hell On The Border

Under a watery sunlit, sometimes see a slight shadow, semi coolish sorta day (how's that for a description? :)), 150 shooters set for 7 stages of cowboy shooting in Arkansas at Old Fort Gun Club.

Now it wasn't without its hiccups for many and we were certainly part of that with hangups with ammo but really nothing major.

We had a great posse. Woo! Go Posse 6 – Back 40, Belle Vaquera, Billy Broncstomper, Blackwater Bruce, Browncoat Annie, Cajun, Cap'n Highpockets, Dusty Darryl, Greasy Creek Slim, Hairless, Irish Tom, Jackaroo, Kathouse Kelli, Mean Mary, Miss Shirl, Mud Puppy, Revelator, Shell Stuffer, Silent Thunder, Tightwad Swede and Willie Mescal.

The proceedings started with prayer and pledge of allegiance, then a swift presentation of the National Buckaroo champ's trophy – we didn't catch them at OKC last weekend and he'd skipped out early at Winter Range – done by Gunny Buckshot. Good one CR Hicock and we hope you do well at EOT is year before you move up to Junior Boy category!

Sooooooo as I mentioned, there were a few undesirable stages for many but all in all, everyone had a great day and faired well. Especially for Oklahoman's (and faux Oklahoman's) – just sayin'!

Although outnumbered the Oklahoman's did well with placing – Long Branch Kitty, Bea G, Lonesome Buck, Kiamichi Queen, The Brisco Kid, Broncho Red, Choctaw Jim, Tacky Jackie, Bois D'Arc, C R Hicock, Montana Dan, Matt Valentine, Red Knee, Scott Wayne, Highland Scottie, Roy's Creek Dan, Jackaroo and Kathouse Kelli. Excuse me if I've forgotten anyone!

Overall Ladies was myself, Kathouse Kelli – Australian by way of Oklahoma and Overall Men's, Roy's Creek Dan – Oklahoma. Yee haa!

Jack took 2nd place in Senior with 3rd place going to Back 40 and 1st place going to Greasy Creek Slim. Congratulations!

A big congratulations to my fellow Lady Wranglers, 2nd Place to Cheek A Bow Wow and 3rd Place – Belle Vaquera.

Jackaroo and I managed to pull off a double win on Derringer for Men's and Ladies and I also won Best Dressed Ladies Shooter for the day.

A great shoot, plenty of good people to be reacquainted with and meet new ones. Tomorrow we will finish the last 5 stages of the Arkansas State Wild Bunch match.

Cheers

Arkansas Here We Come

Tomorrow we will head to Arkansas, Old Fort Gun Club for AR State Championship for Wild Bunch and Hell On The Border match.

Looking forward to it and hope to see lots of cowboys and cowgirls there!

The weather is looking fine with maybe a shower on Friday but nothing we can't handle, right?!

Hope to see you there!

Brinkley, Arkansas

We hit the road before lunchtime today looking to make it, NOT at Conway, but somewhere between Memphis (Hi Marty and Gina! And Erik and Michelle!) and Fayetteville, TN. Plans change quickly, gotta keep up! Me included! Haa haa haa.

Anyway so we shared driving and were tracking okay but just past Little Rock we headed into a storm which had been skirting around us for some time. Wooooo what a ripper!

I gave up hat making, we were in the midst of eating snicker doodle cookies – thunder and lightning, very very frightening! Galileo, Galileo……… Sorry having a Queen moment. It was a pretty impressive light show, managed to get a pic.

However, the torrential rain after, was not cool! We were down to 40-50mph, everyone going slow, hazard lights on as we travelled the road.

And here we are. Stopped at Brinkley, AR, sitting the storm out. Sounds like Little Rock got hit with some very strong damaging winds after we went through there too according to the weather report on the tv now.

Stay safe Cowboys and Cowgirls.
