JacknKats Place

Yep, so it’s been awfully quite in Jack n Kat’s world what with COVID and all.

This past couple of weeks (and another to come) we should have been in the United States for Comin’ Atcha, Talledaga Speedway, Alabama and more, then that got cancelled with not being able to leave the country.

So we were to go to Chisholm Trail here, then that got cancelled.

I was going to cancel my leave but tired me having still worked during all the so called lockdown’s etc I was ready for a break. And hey! After the past six years of not having to work and then a year of part time – full time work has been an eye opener again!! 🤣🤣

So….I decide to keep two of my weeks leave and have a break with Jack. Let’s get some outdoor stuff done we say! Sure! Then thankfully we got quotes for some work to be done instead of assuming our very active and young brains could make our older and in Jack’s case much older body could keep up with our intentions.

Suffice to say it was still a very busy two weeks as I take every moment this evening of my last break for a very long time and head back to work tomorrow.

So what did we achieve?

Well it started with nights of painting the mural ready for the pool backdrop. 18ft long and 4ft high. Meh, did I bite off more than I could chew? Procrastination was taking hold about small difficult sections. Hence the horse and rider being the very last 6” x 6” done. He is my most favorite piece now!!

So the rest was organizing gardens and getting them set for ‘Pandora’ the garden fairy to arrive and work her magic revamping, planting and guiding me to be a good green thumb!

We worked our butts off moving plants, shoveling dirt configuring plantings, getting it just so for future garden happiness in a minimalistic care style for me.

The after effects from Pandora’s magic! Oh and Scottie and Ian the paving guys. 🤣

So now it’s time to tidy, reinstall pool fence (‘cause you know I’m gonna change that up to glass later!) for safety and regulation, seal pavers, install mural and a bit more mood lighting before return to work.

What else got done during the staycation? Well a bit of shooting, hanging with friends, visit to IKEA to start the next renovation, hung a couple new blinds in newly painted window frames, checking and waiting on bar install, oh did I tell you I finished the reupholster of the bar stools? Did that, bit of sewing bit of crafting and just downright enjoying being home with the man. 😉

Hugs y’all!

The Gamblers Club Match

A great day was had on the sunny Gold Coast today with 22 shooters in attendance.

We had a couple brand new cowboy's that certainly held their own. Congratulations Marksman and Itchy Trigger! A couple who hadn't been for a while and Trailrider was up from Canberra and came out to play!

We actually got 6 rain free stages done today! Yee haa!

Had a blast! See you on the trail!

Trans Tasman – Duel Downunder

‘The Special Breed’ that’s what us cowboys and cowgirls are. The Gamblers, Deslaredo had written a spectacular poem of this and so it became the theme for the Trans Tasman this year.

The Trans Tasman – Duel Downunder is a southern, across the ocean, challenge between Australia and New Zealand and alternates at a range on either continent every other year.

The Gamblers again hosted the Trans Tas and it wasn’t long before everyone arrived for the match held over 14-17th March.

It was great for Jack and I to catch up with many that we hadn’t seen for some time.

We had been busy in the weeks leading up to the match helping with match confirmations, prep and more!

What a great weekend we had! It started Thursday with the Pat Garrett match and Posse 4 – Bones, Carter Moss, Coyote Baz, Deadly, Doit Daily, El Rio, Fox, Meggs, Mad Dog Morgan, Painted Mohawk, Rick O’Shea, Two Gun Kate, Trigger Happy, Willy Avashot, Jack and myself.

That afternoon was spent doing speed events before we retired for Ex Sighted and I to get into the scoring and the rain set in.

Main match started on the Friday and we had a great lot of folks on Posse 5 with Alvira Sullivan Earp, Big Bad John, Bones, Boots and Spur, Chiquita, El Hombre, Etta Place and Doc Cummins, Coyote Baz, Meggs, El Rio, Curly Wolf, J P Remington, The Deadwood Gunslinger, Legend Lyn and Short Shot (both from NZ), Lucky Luke, Willy Avashot (with Narelle kindly doing the scoring all weekend) Jack and myself.

Six stages done, rain again that evening, scores done and it’s an early night. Well, early to retire home with Charlie Wagon and Pearl Starr coming to stay for the evening. Rain putting a dampener on the hawk and knife throw side matches.

Saturday and it’s just a few spits of rain taking us into the final 6 stages of the match.

I wasn’t clean by any means which put me very close with the other ladies BUT managed to hang on and clinch it by just 1.30sec’s! 6th overall, 1st lady and 1st in Lady Wrangler, with a few side matches thrown in.

Pat Garrett, Side Match, Main Match and overall buckle

Jack finished with just a couple in 5th overall and 1st place Elder Statesman. Good one man!

Pat Garrett and Main Match

A great weekend! Great gathering! Good fun that ended all too soon.

See you down the trail.

Whats Happening?!

Plenty apparently! We had a great club match with The Gamblers weekend before last. It was hot, sweaty but still fun unlike our Winter Range cowboy’s and cowgirl’s who were competing for the US National Championship this week. They endured thunderstorms, hail, rain and freezing temperatures from snow falls in surrounding hill areas.

Suffice to say that despite us really wanting to be there for it, perhaps it was just as well. We couldn’t be happier for all those who finished well and survived this year. Congratulations to you all, and to Holy Terror and Cody James for taking top mens and ladies overall!!

I’ve finally got into a ‘normal’ routine. Don’t laugh, y’all know I’m not normal. Back into exercise, sewing and finding a purpose. Have been assisting The Gamblers with a new website and the upcoming match. Jack’s been reloading and building our outdoor table in between coughing up a lung this week. I finished a corset and am set for some more!!

Our gear is almost here from Oklahoma, which means treasures await with my machines!!! Its in port and just waiting for it to get out of quarantine.

Cyclone Oma appears to have been and gone, leaving some awesome waves for surfers but destruction of the beaches. Winds were high but all in all, we got bugger all rain out of it and she seemed to pass on without a care.

View from the Mermaid Beach Surf Life Saving Club last Thursday.

Bottom pic is a panorama view of Surfers Paradise around to Coolangatta from the centre of Mermaid Beach.

Speaking of last Thursday, landed my self a little job outside the house! Yep, first shift tomorrow and raring to go.

Anyhooo, its time to write up the list of things to do tomorrow and head for some shut eye.

Hope you have had a great week too!

Shooting with The Gamblers

Saturday passed with a down range kind of day! After a busy few weeks assessing and establishing we are almost there!

The weather was rather warm but nothing that a good ole icy pole can’t fix. Ooo brain freeze!

We had a great group of 17 turn out despite the heat.

Six stages with The Gamblers, saw Jack on top!! Woo hoo! Go man.

Things are starting to look good for The Duel Downunder!

Club Match Feb 2nd 2019

Hope you had a good one no matter where you are!

Aus Update

Its been a crazy week since we landed back here!

Rustled up the keys to our unit and had Jack freaking out over space and where we are going to fit everything. Ahhhh, but someone has already worked out many, many space saving ideas – Pinterest is my best friend! All will be fine.

We had a fun weekend with The Gamblers last weekend for their Christmas and Club Championship shoot. Thanks surely go to Dug Deeper and Trixie for hosting us the couple of nights. Cracker enjoyed the midnight feasts and breakfast desserts! or maybe that was me!

Jack and I didn’t shoot but once again, spotted, kept score etc and enjoyed everyone’s company. Jack was slightly jet-lagged this time taking himself home early on the Saturday evening while I hung out with the rest until the end. Great time!

Congratulations to Chuck Wagon and Clancy for being Overall Club Champions, Trixie and Lucky Luke for Most Improved and to everyone who placed in their category.

From here we headed back up North to Chuck and Pearl’s where we spent the next few days before the house sit. I reacquainted myself with the gym and it was so nice to be doing it with my bestie, laughing, hurting, having coffee after, pool when we got back home, Margarita’s in the afternoon. What more could two girls want, really!

For those of you that may have met Cracker or not, he has been having many adventurous travels – thinking he might be taken by aliens. Had to explain to him, he is the alien in a foreign country, they aren’t coming to take him, so no foil hats required. He has soothed doggies, tormented elves and has been watching auctions for me. So somewhat helpful despite the redneck character.

We are slowly getting sorted in some sort of order and soon will be not living out of a suitcase for a long while.

Missing my crafting and sewing but won’t be long until I have a great workstation to do it from!

Better get back to some job hunting!

Love and hugs

Excitement Looming

Yes!  We are almost at the end of this stay on the beautiful Mermaid Beach and getting set to head to Millmerran for Chisholm Trail and the Nationals.

Looking forward to catching up with some cowboys and cowgirls, meeting many new ones we haven’t come across also.

If you’ve been shooting this weekend or getting set to, we hope you have a sensational time.  I know there is plenty on what with OK State Champs, NM State Champs, Hellfire and many other great shoots overseas.  Dalby is shooting tomorrow as a last practice before Chisholm and then it’s all on, come Monday.

We had a good practice last weekend with The Gamblers and are ready to go. Will keep everyone posted with posts, pic’s and more this coming week and beyond.

Soon we will head out for the next exciting adventure too!

Stay tuned.

Another Roll Of The Dice

The Gamblers put on another spectacular match for the Heartland Territorial Championships – Another Roll of The Dice last weekend.

A turn out of 118 shooters, spectacular weather made for an awesome weekend.

Wednesday with final setup, meet and greet with many, it was ready for action and looking great! Ex Sighted and I went out for a quick look at the range and added a few paint touches to the targets – not that they would last long tomorrow but looked good for the initial run!

The theme this year was Kings and Queens. The targets featured it, the score cards, the poems Deslaredo wrote for each stage and the book featured stories of: Buck Taylor – King of the Cowboys, Rosa Maria Hinojosa de Balti – the first Cattle Queen of Texas, Roy Rogers – King of the (Singing) Cowboys, Davy Crockett – King of the Wild Frontier, Lizzie Johnson Williams – the Cattle Queen of Texas, Poker Alice – the Faro Queen of Deadwood, Pearl Hart – Bandit Queen.

Thursday was Pat Garrett, a 4 stage match. After lunch was speed events and that evening bring on the knife and hawk throwing. So much fun and laughter, hope we didn't keep the neighbor hood awake! Lol!

Into Friday and the first 5 stages of main match. I had a great visit with a high school friend, Kim, it was so great to catch up with her and show her what we do and the enjoyment we get from it.

We had a sensational Posse! Jack and I aka Ricochet, Amazing Grace together with Chuck, Pearl Starr, Katie Younger, Robb n Co, Mrs Mac, Hipshot, Blackjack Al (and his wife Erica), H, Mrs H, Dam Sam, Lucky Strike Lass, Marlboro Man, Coyote Baz, Meggs, Deputy Sheriff Charlie Brown, Miss Lucy, Molly Blade, Amazed, Lone Star, Doc Cummins, Etta Place, Fox and Urban Cowboy.

Friday night and feeling alright, It's beer's, calf roping (with saw cow) and horseshoes!

Saturday morning rolls around for the final 5. With Ex Sighted, Clancy and Powder Burn, scores were checked and double checked, printed and ready for the following day's awards. The shindig was great, Pat Garrett and side match awards given out and before you know it another late night with another early morning to come.

Sunday morning the Top 8 Ladies and Men and an invitational 8 Ladies and Men for the shootout got ready for some final action. The invitational was won by Trixie and Renegade Ty, the top 8 myself and R C Shot.

Much hard work was put in to the trophies by Ex Sighted and Bordello Baz. Donations of other prizes, vouchers etc were greatly appreciated by the recipients.

In the wash up, Jack won Silver Senior category! Congratulations to Deslaredo in 2nd place and Johnny Behan in 3rd place.

Jack also won Speed pistol, Calf Roping and Men's Traditional Lever Action in Pat Garrett.

I rounded out a great weekend, Ladies Traditional Lever Action in Pat Garrett, Speed Rifle, Speed PG Rifle, Calf Roping and Hawk. With 1 miss for the main match I was first in Lady Wrangler alongside Ex Sighted in 2nd Place and Lucky Strike Lass in 3rd place. Congratulations ladies!

First overall out of territory The Terror and Amazing Grace.

Heartland Territorial winners Chuck and Pearl Starr.

Congratulations to everyone who came to play! Hope you had as much fun as we did!

Setting The Scene

Saturday was a successful club match day with The Gamblers. With 20 or more shooters in attendance we got through 6 stages as the afternoon cooled off as the sunlight began to fade.

Sunday with a team of around 13 we set to getting stages ready, props in place, targets out, shooters bags packed, tables organized and the club house decorated with flags, Gamblers paraphernalia and more.

The trophies are mostly set up and as we wait for Wednesday to roll around, then the final bits and pieces can be setup ready for ‘Another Roll Of The Dice’.

For then some 130 shooters will descend on the Gold Coast ready for the annual match.

See you soon!
