What’s Up?

Well it's been a few weeks of secret squirrel projects, fun, shooting, and concert going.

Although the others can't be revealed yet, some for a couple of months! You will get to see them later and others will be revealed after Christmas.

On the past weekend Jack and I had some downtime and after seeing this year's America's Got Talent winner Darci Lynne on tv, we decided to go see her in concert for (she is from Oklahoma) her home coming show.

This 13 year old, very poised little lady, has a sensational amount of talent. No words can describe her ventriloquism and singing abilities. She moved both Jack and I to tears when we first saw her on AGT and we certainly weren't disappointed with the live performance.

Her range and variation in her choice of songs with the humour she inparts to her characters is just amazing. She is extremely talented for someone so young. Her duet with her Mom/Mum singing Silent Night was beautiful.

 

We weren't the only ones that arrived at the matinee without kids, albeit our plans were in line with heading to Toby Keith's bar afterwards, haa haa haa.

The show was sold out for all four at The Criterion, so I'm glad we decided to go as we certainly weren't disappointed.

The supporting act was another all family band with the youngest little pocket rocket being 11 – all brothers and sister, Pelican 212 were unbelievable, the twin 13yr old, trumpet playing boys are real little showmen in their suits. All of them play at least two instruments and their energy and stage presence was amazing.

 

When that was done we walked back down to Bricktown only to find Toby Keith's was closed for private function 😦 – well Charlestons it was which is only next door.

Thankfully we got there early because another hour later and people were waiting in line for tables or even a seat at the bar. Cheers to us!

 

So this week leading up to Christmas? Still working on projects, shopping done and ready to have another crack at a pav for Christmas, got the baileys to try Baileys French toast for Christmas breakfast, shooting practice tomorrow and Christmas Eve and we may even get a little bit of snow here for Christmas Day! Yippee! 🙂

Wild Wild Christmas

Fourteen of us turned up to have a crack at some Wild Bunch stages today following the Cowboy Christmas shoot yesterday.

With the new rule's in place with 7 in a mag, it certainly made for a bit more thinking and exploring the world of tactical reloads. Sorta got to know what you're doin'! The sequence worked out better on some stages but need to know the finer points of mag changes etc for it to become smoother.

 

We shot 5 stages finishing around 2pm. Then we sat down for beer, brats. cowboy beans and sauerkraut. Special thanks to the Cowboys that hunt and make summer sausage and andouli venison sausage! It was divine!

 

Thanks Hondo Tweed and the crew for a great day, oh and the awesome fudge!!

Christmas Shoot with The Territorial Marshal’s

A chilly start to the day brought out 28 shooters for the Territorial Marshal's Christmas shoot.

Four stages trying to keep hands warm and working but the sun was shining and the breeze was light so you can't complain!

 

Jack decided he would try a 'mixed bag' of fun, testing his black powder loads and pistols, one of his Rugers, the .22 rifle (she says rolling her eyes) and his shotgun. Pity Santa hadn't been paying attention to which guns he packed in and put both of my pistols in the bag!!! Lol!

 

Jack had a ball with his mixed up shooting and I had a pretty good run. Plenty of laughs in any case.

 

More turned up for the Christmas party with a great dinner by John Elder's crew and restaurant. With tables cleared and a table full of gifts the 'dirty Santa' games began! Christmas gifts taken, stolen and everyone went away pretty happy with whatever they were gifted. I'm still in shock and awe that the quietest man on the range, Captain Lee, is actually funny and did a short magic medicine show. The 'Dad' jokes were abundant! Lol!

 

Tomorrow it's Wild Bunch and looking forward to 5 stages and a gathering of great cowboy's for more Christmas shooting fun.

…targets ring, are you listening, ……the brass, it is glistening, ……a beautiful sight, a shooters delight, walking down the marshal's cowboy range….. (And if you didn't sing that to Winter Wonderland then there is something wrong with you 🙂 haa haa haa)

ITSASS Saturday

The weather has definitely cooled off here but Friday saw an unusual high of 82F/26C making it the perfect day for getting Christmas lights up as we prepare for a Christmas in Oklahoma.

Saturday we headed to Sapulpa/Sand Springs for the ITSASS club match. It was cold, scarf, gloves, coat definitely required!

Still, there were 22 cowboy's and cowgirl's that headed out for 6 stages. With some changes in the committee for the club, the stages were shall we say, a little different and old school.

Definitely had to use the front sights which wasn't such a bad idea and is a good idea to do every now and again!

 

Our friends from Kansas, Cooncan and Bertie Winchester had head down for the day so it was so good to see them and shoot with. We lunched afterwards with Hondo Tweed and Riverside Burns which was good as we haven't sat down with them in a while.

 

Sunday was a recoup day and get organised for the next projects – for me – amongst Christmas movies and cups of coffee! 🙂

Clubbing With The Marshals

Club match that is!

After last nights storm gave way to a beautiful clear blue sky, next to no breeze and cooler temperatures, a smaller posse of 19 shooters turned up for the club match.

 

We are now on to a later start – from 10am – six stages AND lunch we were still done and on the road just after 2pm.

 

Come visit the Territorial Marshals for some cowboy action shooting aaannndd maybe a whole of fun and a little bit of heckling. 🙂

Special Treasures

I would safely say I have truly been blessed with meeting so many wonderful people, crossing paths along the way throughout my life during Cowboy Action shooting.

Not only for the commraderie, healthy competition and learning but also being able to assist in passing on my knowledge and skills along the way.

I have been extremely grateful in the past that some have found me worthy of little treasured presents.

This weekend I was given some plaid fabric by Annie Hicock that would make a great 1890's walking dress….so the thinking cap has gone on for that, time for a new dress in my future – in amongst everything else at some point!

 

Idaho Sue from Texas also brought me some fabric she was clearing out of her stash and in amongst it I think is the blue I'm looking for for my next formal gown! Holy cow! Excited much!

 

The jewel in the crown however, was when she came to me at the banquet last night with 3 little 'gems' that just blew me away for the much appreciated gift. She had seen 3 ivory handled button hooks at an antique store and thought I might like them. I don't know how many times I said thank you but it doesn't seem enough.

 

They are in the cabinet with my Fred Harvey 'gems'!

Red Dirt Rampage Part 2

This morning gave way to another glorious day in Oklahoma and a sensational start to the final 5 stages of the 2017 SASS SW Regional Championship.

We started early in the Saloon (stage 5), headed off to Church (stage 1), hit the Stagecoach running out of town (stage 2), jumped off at the Adobe Wall (stage 3) and finally arrived to the end of the match at the Train Depot (stage 4).

 

We had a great Posse headed by Wild Horse John, along with Capt Jim Midnight, Shootin Fox, Creek, Mesquite Ranger, Max Montana, Cooncan, Bertie Winchester, Rio Concho Kid, Alamo Andy, Wildcat Cliff, Texas Mean Gene, Sixkiller – US Marshal, Wes Beckett U.S. Marshal, Jackaroo and Kathouse Kelli.

 

All done and dusted a clean match for me along with a few others from our posse. Jack had continuing shotgun issues but hung in there.

 

We visited with friends and picked up supplies, heading out to get ready for the banquet and awards.

This year's banquet was held at the University of Central Oklahoma and was an excellent venue. Awards were done, prizes were given – I've never seen Grady County Kid leap so high or so fast when he won the Dillon 650. Sweetest young man you could meet.

I finished 1st in Lady Wrangler with Tejas Red 2nd, Calamity Di-Bar 3rd (not in the photo) and Cheeka Bow Wow 4th.

 

Congratulations to Jack's fellow Silver Senior's, Aberdeen 1st, Lefty Wheeler 2nd, Creek 3rd and my sincerest apologies for not remembering the other 2.

It was an extremely close 1.17sec's but congratulations to Missouri Mae for the overall ladies and to Creek County Kid for the overall men's and 1st overall!

 

Another great match, again, if you have been thinking of shooting this match?well, get here next April when the Regional will be combined with Land Run and the banquet back at the National Cowboy Museum and Hall Of Fame.

Red Dirt Rampage Part 1

Yesterday was Wild Bunch, warm up stages, side matches, RO courses (range officer courses), cowboy clays and some long range. The weather is divine and people were turning up in droves!

There were two time slots for warm up in the morning and afternoon. Wild Bunch was 4 stages and Jack and I had a great time doing those.

 

Side matches were running most of the day with speed pistol, rifle, shotgun (side by side and '97), gunfighter and duelist, .22rifle and pistol, derringer and pocket pistol.

Catch ups ensued with friends from near and far!

Today we were on the late wave starting at 12.30. Five stages completed (10, 6, 7, 8, 9). Great stages on the Corral, Mercantile, Mine, Livery and lastly the Fort. Smooth and consistent – clean!

 

Jack is clean also but has pulled a muscle or something in his elbow or forearm. Playing havoc with picking up shotgun and chucking shells. Don't let him fool for you, he has still had some good times. 😉

 

Then after that was done they had a 'sign me up' shootout where anyone can go in. Think they ended up with around 18 men's and 6 women. Kit Carson won it for the men's and I won the ladies. Congratulations to all who entered and to my friend Cooncan who ran very close to me on the final shoot! You'll have to go to the FB page to see how close!

 

Tomorrow it starts again! We are on the early wave! See you on the range!

Range Is Set!

Well folks, the range is set for Red Dirt Rampage, the SW Regional championship hosted by the Territorial Marshal's.

Looks fantastic! The weather is perfect! Just sensational for the next few days!

Stage 1 – The Church

 

Stage 2 – The Stagecoach – look how good my painted sky matches the real sky today!! To say I'm pleased with my painting is an understatement, I love this piece!

 

Stage 3 – The Adobe Wall

 

Stage 4 – The Depot – with our resident conductor aka looks like Gunkiller! But it's not!

 

Stage 5 – The Saloon had to take pics from outside saloon was locked up so you'll have to wait for new pics!

 

Stage 6 – The Mercantile

 

Stage 7 – The Mine – only got to shoot 6 of the 8 shotgun.

 

Stage 8 – The Livery

 

Stage 9 – Fort Courage

 

Stage 10 – OK Corral

 

Some of them have the odd extra target getting ready for side matches and Wild Bunch tomorrow.

Yee haw! Bring it! Hope you are here to have fun, if you still have never shot Land Run or Red Dirt Rampage, next year it will combined and be held end of April!! You've got to come try it!

A Full Weekend

A three hour trip over to Fort Smith yesterday found beautiful weather, exceptional changes on the range that we hadn't experienced since being done and a great group of cowboy's and cowgirl's.

Okay, we did miss you Naildriver and Ambler!

With 18 of us, we had a blast with Judge Parker Marshals taking on 6 fantastic stages with a twist at the end, thanks CS Brady. No truly, we had a great day, thanks everyone!

 

Had fun with these two chicks! Rip A Lot and Belle Vaquera 😉

 

Got back in time for beer o'clock and did basically nothing for the rest of the evening. Watched Oklahoma State v Texas Tech, great game, I'm learning more!

Sunday and we headed out for Cushing, OK to Lincoln County Cowboy's and another different 18 cowboy's and cowgirl's- well Della and I!

Weather was spectacular, a slight breeze, sunshine, blue skies, no sweat- always a plus, just a sensational day also.

 

Six stages to run through, followed by hotdogs.
